Graduate Trainee Finance Assistant

The Finance Assistant is responsible for performing a wide variety of accounting tasks which will include, but is not limited to, the following duties: 

  • Processing foreign currency supplier invoices and credit notes, matching against purchase orders and approval list
  • Code invoices accurately to allow analysis of purchases by expense type 
  • Set up and maintain supplier accounts 
  • Reconcile supplier accounts and resolve any differences 
  • Deal with supplier queries via telephone or email and resolves queries promptly 
  • Prepare supplier payments (BACS, cheques, direct debits and standing orders) 
  • Ensure all invoices have the appropriate approvals prior to payment (e.g. purchase order, sign off) 
  • Ensure payments to contractors are approved and paid in a timely manner 
  • Credit card statements matching invoices/receipts and reconciling accounts 
  • Use electronic banking to monitor cash balances and make payments 
  • Liaise with other departments in Kainos (e.g. Admin, Systems, HR and Operations) 
  • Provide support to the Financial Accounts and Group Head of Finance as required 
  • Cash book – responsible for maintaining and keeping up to date  
  • Reconciliations for various bank accounts multicurrency 
  • Helping prepare account analysis providing P&L reports v budget and analysis expenditure to budget owner 
  • Prepayment preparation and reconciliation 
  • Preparing accruals such as Purchase Orders, credit cards, travel, invoices
  • Maintaining the fixed asset register, including monthly depreciation journals and reconciliation  
  • Complies with all confidentiality and non-disclosure policies and/or agreements and ensures security of information at all times;
  • General finance support to the rest of the team  

Required Experience:

  • Ideally you will have a degree in a Finance/Accounting related subject, OR have a minimum of 1 years’ experience in a relevant environment 
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word 
  • Ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision
  • Highly flexible (including willingness to work flexible hours at peak times)
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work to a high standard of accuracy
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Creative, articulate, enthusiastic, responsible, logical and thorough
  • Amicable and approachable with a mature, non-confrontational style

Other Information

Kainos is a professional services organisation with clients spread across the globe and we deliver projects both from client site, and from our offices. While we will attempt to base you on projects near or at your contracted office location, you need to be willing to travel to client sites and spend time away during the week if it is required.
