The donation of £1800 will be used to purchase new resources for the charity's Lego Club, which was launched last summer as a pilot for young people with autism. Kids Together Coordinator Mairead McCrea comments, 'The Lego Club has proved to be a big hit amongst our children and young people with ASD (autism spectrum disorder). Through both structured and free play, Lego based therapy gives participants an opportunity to work together in groups, building and planning to their hearts desire. 'This provides them with a fun filled way express their unique ideas and feelings, while also learning to appreciate the merit of working in a team and understanding the need to develop essential skills. We aim not only to improve each child's social and communication skills, but also their confidence, self-esteem and motivation to work together as a team, rather than as individuals. 'We're delighted that Kainos chose Kids Together as one of its nominated charities for the year, and we've already earmarked the donation for new Lego sets which will ensure the continued success and longevity of the club.' Kainos is committed to undertaking charitable activities as part of its corporate social responsibility, and each year 2-3 nominated charities are selected by its employees. The company is also committed to improving digital literacy amongst young people through its ongoing 'Tech Outreach' programme, and has recently partnered with the Prince's Trust to deliver digital skills training to 400 young people in Northern Ireland in 2016.
