The initial shock of COVID-19 and the global lockdown saw the sheer volume of in-shop payments drop off a cliff edge. Customers were cautious, fearful in terms of health and the economic impacts. What quickly became apparent – and fully embraced – was the importance of contactless payments as the safest way to pay. Even more so, contactless was rapidly becoming the preferred method of payment even in geographies where cash was still considered king.
