Kainos recognises digital talent at AppCamp prizegiving

Digital solutions company Kainos has awarded prizes to the 2013 finalists of AppCamp. Students from universities around Northern Ireland gathered in Belfast, while the London finalists joined via Skype from the Kainos London office.   With each of the ten talented AppCampers taking home MacBooks for their hard work in bringing apps to market, two special prizes were awarded to the winners whose apps have proved most popular in the iTunes store over the last eight months.   These were 'milemapper' by Stephen Laide and 'Whole Lotta London' by Jack Scotti both of who were given an Oculus Rift. 'Milemapper' is an ad-free workout tracker, allowing users to create personal routes and measure distance covered, and Scotti's 'Whole Lotta London' is a guide for overseas students that helps acclimatise future Londoners to the city and meet others.   A separate category, the Technical Triumph, was awarded by Kainos specialists to Adam Fallon for 'Maply' and Ghulam Abbas for 'London CC'. 'Maply' marks the first use of storyboarding in an AppCamp app, and incorporates complex integrations and unique database uses. 'London CC' integrates multiple maps with GPS and generates circles and coordinates of London Congestion Charge zones. Overall downloads for all AppCamp 2013 apps have almost reached 12,000 an AppCamp record.   The prizegiving comes in the lead up to AppCamp 2014, taking place in Bristol and Belfast in June this year. Kainos is taking applications for these free summer programmes at www.appcamp.co.uk until May 9th 2014.
