The Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust is Named as Finalist in the EHI 2011 Awards for its Clinical Information Portal

London & Belfast, August 8th, 2011 The Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust has been selected by the judging panel at this year's EHI 2011 awards as one of three finalists in the 'Outstanding work in IT-enabled Change in Healthcare' category. Ipswich has been chosen for its highly replicable, flexible and clinician focused solution (Evolve?) delivered, in partnership with IT Solutions company, Kainos. The solution has significant support and engagement right across the Trust from clinical staff through to GPs and across nursing and administration staff and has revolutionised the way the Trust uses information to improve patient care and outcomes. Now in its fifth year, The EHI Awards in association with BT, recognise and reward the work done by the NHS to improve healthcare through excellent and innovative technology. Judged by a panel of distinguished industry experts including Christine Connelly, director general informatics at the Department of Health, the awards are regarded as one of the most influential arbiters of healthcare industry performance. The primary aim of the Evolve solution at Ipswich is, 'To improve patient care by freeing up the flow of vital information amongst different points of care, so that the right treatment can be given efficiently and effectively according to the very latest patient case notes', according to Neil Turnbull, Head of Programme Delivery in the Information Management and Technology department at The Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust. 'The solution is already exceeding expectations, delivering financial return, removing costs from the business and inspiring other Trusts to follow a similar path. We are honoured to have been selected as a finalist in these prestigious healthcare awards.' It is the project's immense ability to be replicated and repurposed, whether across small, medium, large or specialist Trusts that is one of the key, unique elements of this project at Ipswich. In the past 12 months alone Ipswich has hosted in excess of 20 site visits (many with multiple repeat visits) from other Trusts keen to see the system and understand the processes. Every Trust has been inspired by the work carried out at Ipswich both from a technology and people/process automation and improvement perspective, and a number have already moved to follow the same technology path. Deirdre O'Neill is head of the Evolve healthcare division at Kainos and adds, 'This is a wonderful endorsement of the work that we have done with Ipswich and it is a great achievement to have this recognition of excellence from such distinguished healthcare experts.'
