Vote for our SXSW 2017 entries

Pitching for a presenting slot at SXSW (South by Southwest) has become an annual Kainos tradition, and over the past few years our people have enjoyed tremendous success. They've taken to the stage to present on a range of technology related themes - from generating conversation on the need for greater digital skills education amongst young people at SXSWEdu, to offering insights and best practices around offline web development at SXSW Interactive - the sessions have been varied and always well received. Hoping to take to the stage during 2017's event are Gemma Crothers, Tech Outreach Manager at Kainos, and Alex Turnbull and Matthew Fitch, who have submitted a joint pitch. As always, they need your votes to make it through to the next round. Details on both sessions are below, along with the links to where you can place your vote. Society Does! - Gemma Crothers Gemma-SXSW-promoIn 2016 women have never been more powerful. The UK has welcomed a female Prime Minister, and in the US, the race is on to elect the first female President. Strong women are taking over the world or so it seems. However, daily news stories contradict this perception. In the Tech Industry, which is purportedly sexist and discriminatory, women battle to prove their abilities, fighting tooth and nail for promotion opportunities and struggling with work/life balance. Is this really the nature of the Tech Industry and why women represent only 26% of the workforce? Or is it our approach as a society to early years and education that turns women away from thriving career opportunities? Learn more and vote for this session here!
Progressive Web Applications - The Future of Apps - Alex Turnbull and Matthew Fitch AlexMatthew-SXSW-promo600pxWhen building mobile applications, we are faced with the difficult decision of whether to build multiple native applications (iOS & Android),a website or both to fulfill our digital needs. Not only is this complex to develop and maintain but none of the solutions are perfect and compromises have to be made. We can do better! Using the latest web technologies, we can build web applications that mix that best of native applications with the best of web applications. In this session we will look at these technologies more closely and see how to create great user experiences for all our users, no matter what device they have, with just one application.
