AWS re/Start triggered by reboot

For anyone taking a career break, AWS re/Start can be a great way to build back your skills or even start fresh in Cloud technology. AWS re/Start is a free 12 week bootcamp to kickstart your career in tech as a Cloud Support Practitioner — run in collaboration with Amazon Web Services. It helps to springboard a career into the IT industry. Nalini shared her story about re-joining the workplace in this new post.

For a long time, like so many, my career in technology took a backseat to family commitments. Prior to my career break, I was working on the other extreme of cloud platforms, primarily doing data analysis on databases hosted on bare metal boxes.

I wanted to share my experience of how thanks to AWS re/Start and Kainos I was able to reboot, and in particular the Kainos Platforms Academy. The AWS re/Start scheme gave me the tools to get up to speed on all things cloud and at the end of the training, land an interview with Kainos. From there it was onto the Kainos Platforms Academy to continue learning before joining my new project. Right from AWS to Kubernetes to Azure, everything contributed to a wealth of learning for me as technology has transformed so much over the years!

About the Restart Academy

We are a diverse team of six in the academy, each one with different background and skillsets. Being a fresh re-start in technology for me on the academy, I was very relieved to find that my mentors / team members being very welcoming and approachable. The patience and maturity showed was remarkable in the face of my very basic questions!

The mentors were very thoughtful to allocate a buddy for me, who was very helpful to me in resolving any issues that I faced during my initial onboarding phase and in my current learning phase. My buddy was very helpful and patient with all of my questions, no matter how small.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to my mentors for sharing their valuable knowledge and my team members for their support in the academy.

A big thanks first of all to AWS re/Start for their support.

Mentors - Tom O'Connor, Piyush Kumar, Jacek Mackiewicz

Team Members - Claudia Weber, Matthew Ricketts, Raphael Boateng-Amponsah, Stephen Clifford, Ozzy Ibrahim, Andrzej Sywula

Everyone’s voice is heard

Kainos values their employees and embraces people with diverse backgrounds and skillsets. I have now seen first-hand that Kainos places emphasis and values the knowledge and acumen of individuals irrespective of the designation or title.

The academy has equipped me with skills and knowledge and boosted my confidence level and removed any uneasiness associated with re-starting my technology career after a long gap.

Virtual learning!

I was very impressed by the way Kainos handled my remote on-boarding. Everything went very smoothly right from provisioning laptop and accessories, through to the orientation. The IT support provided for setting up my system for remote working was excellent.

What I learned about Kainos

Kainos’ work in the UK public sector is amazing. I had first-hand experience of the quality of the work when I had to renew my passport before joining Kainos.

“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”

-Mahatma Gandhi

The above phrase is so important in everyone’s life as learning should never stop, particularly in the technology sector as it continuously evolves in all walks of our life.

I am fortunate enough to have joined Kainos and very grateful for this opportunity to reboot my career.
