Kainos & NHS Digital Win at HSJ Partnership Awards

Kainos, a leading provider of digital services and platforms, has helped NHS Digital to secure an award at the HSJ Partnership Awards.

At a ceremony held on the 27th February in London's Westminster Bridge Park Plaza, NHS Digital's project to integrate the organ donor register in the NHS app picked up first place in the System and Data Integration category.

The HSJ Partnership Awards showcase the providers, suppliers and not-for-profit organisations that are partnering with the NHS to deliver better services and improved outcomes.

Kainos partnered with NHS Digital, NHSX, NHS Blood & Transplant, BJSS and Northgate Public Services to provide patients in England with Organ Donor Registration services on the NHS app. Launched in December 2018, the app was a world-first which puts patients firmly in the driving seat and revolutionises the way we access health services, by enabling patients to check symptoms, book and manage GP appointments, order prescriptions and view medical records.

The partnership had just seven months to develop the software from business case to go-live, with no tolerance for project slippage or going over budget. It is an excellent example of the benefits of integrating existing systems and data, and how public and private organisations can work together effectively to achieve a common goal and shared purpose.

Chris Fleming, Programme Director, NHS Digital, said 'We are delighted to have been recognised for all the hard work that has gone in from multiple organisations to help get the organ donor register onto the NHS App. This will help more people set their organ donation preferences easily and efficiently. To date more than 10,000 people have set their organ donation preferences through the NHS App and we hope many more will continue to use this function to do so.'

Russell Sloan, Head of Digital Services at Kainos said 'We are proud to have partnered with NHS Digital to deliver what is a vital and potentially life-saving service. It is testament to the power of digital technology and the efficiencies it can drive and we look forward to continue working closely with NHS Digital to deliver an outstanding service for patients.'.
