Kainos Renewable Energy Policy

Kainos Group plc (Kainos) is committed to reducing its environmental impact and promoting sustainable practices across all aspects of its operations. Through our Climate Action Programme, we seek to understand, manage and reduce environmental impacts while supporting our customers and partners to do the same.

Kainos has an Environmental Programme in place that aligns with the Paris Agreement and BS8555/ISO 14005 and supports our commitment to climate action and transparent environmental reporting. 

Objectives and Targets

Kainos successfully achieved its FY2026 Science Based Targets (SBTs), demonstrating sustained progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions across our operations and value chain. Our FY2026 targets were to:

• Reduce absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 70% from a FY2020 baseline.
• Reduce Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 45% per unit of value added from a FY2020 baseline.

We exceeded our Scope 1 and Scope 2 target, achieving a 75% reduction by FY2026. We also achieved our Scope 3 target, delivering a 45% reduction in emissions per unit of value added over the same period.

Building on this progress, we are working with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to develop and validate a new set of science-based targets for FY2031. These targets will cover Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions and will support our continued alignment with a 1.5°C pathway and long-term net zero ambitions.

Engaging our people

• We will build awareness across our global teams about the benefits of sustainability.
• We will encourage involvement in energy conservation initiatives through training, promotion of energy-saving practices and recognition of colleague contributions to climate action. 

Compliance and governance

• We will comply with relevant environmental legislation, regulations, and any other requirements to which Kainos subscribes. We will strive to exceed these requirements whenever possible. 

Renewable energy adoption

• We will procure renewable energy from reliable sources to power our business wherever practicable. 

Energy efficiency

• We will implement energy-efficient practices and technologies to optimise energy consumption and reduce waste across our operations.

Engaging our stakeholders

• We will engage customers, partners, suppliers and wider communities to raise awareness of renewable energy initiatives and sustainable energy practices. 

Collaboration and communication

• We will work with providers, researchers, industry and others to stay informed about the latest advancements in renewable energy technologies and practices, and explore opportunities for joint projects, research and innovation. 
• We will maintain processes to track energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
• We will publicly disclose performance through our Annual Report and CDP submissions, and share achievements and targets with employees, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders. 

Continual improvement

• We will regularly review and update this policy and associated energy management practices to support delivery of future science-based targets and continued reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.

Risk management

• We will conduct regular assessments to identify and manage risks associated with renewable energy projects and initiatives. 

Scope and Review

This policy applies to all Kainos operations globally, including employees and contractors, and will be reviewed annually to ensure ongoing relevance and effectiveness.
