Renewable Energy Policy
Kainos Group plc (Kainos) is on a mission to make people’s lives better through technology. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and promoting sustainable practices in all aspects of our operations, ensuring we act responsibly to protect and enhance the natural world around us.
Our Environmental Programme is designed to help us understand, manage and reduce any harmful environmental impacts from our business activities and from our delivery of digital solutions; helping our customers and partners to reduce their own environmental impact. It aligns with the Paris Agreement and BS8555/ ISO14005, underscoring our commitment to climate action and transparent reporting of progress towards our near-term Science Based Targets (SBT’s) to reduce our Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 70% by FY26. To achieve this, we have established this policy as a framework for the adoption and integration of green energy resources and efficiency measures.
Policy framework:
1. Engaging our people:
- Build awareness across our global teams about the benefits of sustainability.
- Encourage involvement in energy conservation initiatives through training, promoting energy-saving practices and recognising colleague contributions to climate action.
2. Compliance:
- Comply with relevant environmental legislation, regulations, and any other requirements to which Kainos subscribes. We will strive to exceed these requirements whenever possible.
3. Energy adoption:
- Procure renewable energy from reliable sources to power our business.
4. Energy efficiency:
- Implement energy-efficient practices and technologies to optimise energy consumption and reduce waste across our offices.
5. Engaging our stakeholders:
- Engage customers, partners, suppliers, and wider communities to raise awareness of our green energy projects.
6. Collaboration:
- Work with providers, researchers, industry and others to stay informed about the latest advancements in renewable energy technologies and practices, and explore opportunities for joint projects, research and innovation.
7. Communication:
- Continued tracking of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions which we publicly disclose in our annual report, and through submissions to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) on progress towards our SBT near term targets.
8. Continuous improvement:
- Regularly review and update the policy to enhance our SBT near term commitments.
9. Risk management:
- Conduct regular risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential challenges in our renewable energy projects.
Scope
This policy applies to all our operations and the employees and contractors who work in them.
Review and updates:
This policy will be reviewed regularly and updated as appropriate to enhance our SBT commitments.
