The Beginning

 

1986 – 2003

1986

Kainos is founded as a joint venture between Fujitsu and QUB in April 1986.

 

1987

1987 starts with Frank Graham becoming Kainos’ first employee on 1st Jan.

1989

Kainos’ current CTO, Tom Gray is part of the team working on the launch of an electricity network analysis product for ICL – a system we continue to support.

 

1990

Kainos outgrows its first office and moves into a bigger space. Onwards and upwards!

1996

Kainos is busy developing the Microsoft-based Meridio software product for enterprise document and records management – later to become our first successful spin-off.

 

1998

We’re growing, growing, growing! And opening a new office in St Stephen's Green, Dublin to be close to our Irish customers.

1998

Kainos comes home! We move into our present offices at Upper Crescent in Belfast, which we’ve really made our own.

 

2000

We’re working on some really high-octane projects, including developing the core ticketing software for London Underground ticketing.

2001

Kainos goes to Kansas! We send a team to work onsite with our customer on our first ever US project.

 

2001

Meridio demerges from Kainos, taking Frank as new CEO. Brendan Mooney steps up to take the reins at Kainos.

Kainos expands into the UK

 

2004 – 2009

2004

Bank of Ireland ask us to develop and deploy an innovative customer relationship management system.

 

2005

The UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office looks to Kainos to develop and deploy a ground-breaking case management system that meets the challenges of new data protection legislation.

2006

Elementary, my dear Watson! We’re off to London, and establish ourselves in the old SOE headquarters in Baker Street.

 

2007

Successful spin-off number two - SpeechStorm, providing automated voice, text and video products for enterprise call centres, takes the industry by storm!

2007

Witamy, Kainos! We establish a new development centre in the historic city of Gdansk in Poland.

 

2009

eircom Group commissions Kainos to deploy a digital portal to support their 3 million telephone subscribers.


Kainos enters new markets

 

2010 – Present



 



2010

Kainos entered into the UK healthcare market with the first deployment of Evolve for the Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust.

 

 

2012

We’re busy working on our first Digital Services project for the UK’s Cabinet Office. Today, the ‘Register to Vote’ platform is open to 46 million UK citizens.

 

 

2012

Another first for Kainos: we make it into the Sunday Times ‘Top 100 Companies to Work For’ for the first time, and we’ll continue to improve our score year on year.

2011

Our first Kainos AppCamp kicks off in Belfast. It’s still one of a kind and continues to attract students to design, build and launch Apps.

2012

Kainos' Workday division completes our first ‘prime’ implementation for King Digital and starts developing an automated Workday testing product, Kainos Smart.

 

2013

In our very first CodeCamp, we give over one hundred school leavers a window into the life of a software professional, and help them learn to code!

Kainos launches ‘Earn as You Learn’, an exciting opportunity for students to work with us here at Kainos – and get paid – while studying for a degree.

 

2014

Ashford and St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust sign a contract for Evolve - the 25th Acute English NHS Trust to do so. Evolve is now licenced to be used in over 70 NHS hospitals.

Way to go! Kainos launches the Map initiative to streamline the way in which we develop and train our talented staff.

 

2015

Our Kainos Smart Testing product signs its 50th customer – and we open Kainos offices in Amsterdam and Boston to support WorkSmart expansion.

2015

A major milestone: Kainos IPOs and is listed on the Main Market at the London Stock Exchange!

Over in Gdansk, we’re opening prestigious new offices – and Anna Bogacka-Krzyzak becomes our 200th Polish employee.
