Working in Kainos Design
We’re dedicated to user-centred design
As part of the Kainos user-centred design team, you will:
- Solve complex challenges: Tackle problems that meet user needs and business goals.
- Collaborate across disciplines: Work in multi-disciplinary teams on diverse projects.
- Create impactful solutions: Apply your skills to healthcare, UK government and commercial sectors.
“At Kainos, user-centred design is not just a practice - it’s a core principle that guides how we work across the entire organisation. It means collaborating closely with clients to truly understand their users and advocating, so that every decision is aligned with delivering value and creating meaningful impact.”
We’re flexible
At Kainos, you have the freedom to work where it suits you best - whether that's from a Kainos office or your home. You can create a schedule that fits your needs and personal responsibilities.
Projects may sometimes involve work at client sites or trips to a Kainos office for team meetings, but you’ll always have the chance to discuss this with your team.
“One of the best things about Kainos is its flexibility and support. My office is in Birmingham, but I can work remotely from Nottingham, making it easier to balance work and personal commitments. There’s always someone to reach out to for advice - so I always feel connected, even when working remotely.”
We’re inclusive
At Kainos, we embrace everyone who wants to join our team. We celebrate diversity and ensure that everyone feels welcome and supported. You’ll find a strong sense of community here, where individuality is valued and collaboration is key to our success.
You can join working groups and committees to suit you - from Inclusive Design to Women in Tech - and we encourage open discussions across a range of topics, creating a culture of continuous learning and mutual respect.
“As someone with dyslexia, I have never felt out of place on any UCD team I've worked in at Kainos. Everyone, including senior members of staff, openly discusses their experiences with dyslexia. I can always count on support and guidance whenever I need it."
We're mentors
Our mentoring programme offers you the opportunity to mentor or be mentored. It allows you to:
- Learn from colleagues
- Inspire fresh ideas
- Build your confidence
- Take your career to the next level
Whether you’re looking for guidance or to share your expertise, our mentoring programme fosters personal and professional growth, helping you to achieve your goals.
"As a user researcher, the mentoring programme at Kainos has encouraged me to up-skill. Having a mentor has been crucial in enabling me to network, explore my abilities, and learn from others. The support I’ve received has been truly invaluable.”
We’re committed to wellbeing
Our Design team wellbeing working group offers you support when you need it, providing a great opportunity to feel connected to colleagues and gain helpful tips for managing your wellbeing at work.
We also embed wellbeing into our projects to ensure that employees feel safe, respected, and empowered to maintain a healthy work-life balance. By fostering a culture of care, we prioritise mental and physical wellbeing across all areas of our work.
“Leading our health and wellbeing working group has been a meaningful experience. It’s empowering to see our team come together to support the Design capability and foster a more engaged, positive and productive workplace. Together, we’re building a culture where people feel inspired to thrive.”
