Health Hack Dublin Winners Announced

Meeting real health needs with novel and innovative solutions was the goal of Health Hack Dublin, which took place at the Irish Computer Society HQ in Ballsbridge and saw over 70 healthcare professionals and technology experts come together this weekend.
Healthcare professionals were given just 1 minute to pitch their ideas and challenges to the audience of innovative developers and designers. Over 10 teams were formed and 24 hours of dynamic brainstorming and coding ensued, shining a light on the pace at which innovation can be explored.
On Sunday, teams presented the results of their work to a panel of judges spanning the spectrum of healthcare, academia and business.
Bairbre Nic Aongusa, Assistant Secretary General at the Department of Health presented prizes in a number of categories including Productivity, Health Benefits and Potential to Make a Billion. The prizes reflected the desire to improve healthcare and create better jobs.
The overall winning solution is a device, linked to a CFit iOS game, aimed at helping children with Cystic Fibrosis to do vital exercises. The judges were impressed with the way team 'Kipster' created a solution that met a real health need through a novel overlap between hardware, software and gamification.

- The midwife-led Smart team that generated a system aimed at improving efficiency, safety and time management for community midwife teams.
- The CPD Health Hub team that produced an application aimed at improving health professional training using gamification and social media. This was deemed to have greatest commercial potential.
- The Asthma Adventure Team that developed an app to incentivise compliance with asthma medication, targeted at children aged 8+.
