Behind the scenes at a Smart HCM training session
Something that we have been discussing on our social media channels recently is the amount of travelling the Kainos Smart Professional Services Team undertake. Between us, we've covered thousands of miles this year alone to on-board our customers. This is all because our automated Workday testing product Kainos Smart HCM comes with a dedicated support team it's not just a product that we plug in and leave customers to work out for themselves!
So what can you expect to go through in your three days of Smart training? What should you prepare? What can you expect to get out of it? We decided to get together and compile a high level overview of what we cover at these training sessions.
Kainos Smart training provides an in-depth insight into the functionality of the product and how to utilise automated testing in order to maximise the efficiency of your Workday test efforts. The training is delivered to a wide range of roles within customer teams and will show how Kainos Smart can be utilized to streamline your Workday testing, both in implementation and live configurations. The training does not require any previous experience and is typically taken over a 3 day period. The scope of the training will be agreed beforehand.
Day 1
On the first day an overview of Smart is given, this allows anyone on the team who has not previously seen our automated testing product to see its capabilities. After demonstrating the functionality, users then engage in building up some low level complexity business processes, allowing users to get a feel for the product.
Day 2
The second day we take more of a hands on approach - users work on building up unique end-to-end tests for complex business process that are specifically tailored towards their Workday tenant configurations. By the end of the day, we find that our clients feel comfortable using Kainos Smart to extend their regression test pack which can be used on demand.
Day 3
The third day of training consists of security testing and utilising Smart to test integrations. Testing security in Workday is an important and challenging task, especially where intersection security is involved. Our training for security aims to ease some of the pain around this and allows users to test field level and available action security. A typical test would be something like: can a manager see an employee's salary? Can that employee see the manager's salary? What actions can be performed by an individual, for example can a specific user change personal information or terminate an employee? After the security tests have been built a number of the most important integrations ran by clients are also configured in Smart, utilising previous tests built from the previous days. If the customers have any further tests to set up at this point, this is something we'd do together. Finally, we'd use the output file to run an integration comparison.
We feel that we should allow the trainees to follow all the above steps during the demo and for this not to simply be displayed on a projector. This is why we conduct our training in a very practical workshop manner, with all attendees completing all of the above individually helping them to fully grasp the working of Kainos Smart and the relationship testing has with Workday processes and data in a very real way.
Conclusion
Ultimately, spending time with our customers and working through Smart's features lets you determine the best ways for Smart to complement your Workday testing strategy. Many times we've been with clients and together, we've worked out a new use for Smart that neither of us had even considered, so it's all very much a collaborative process. Following training on site, we continue to work with you to complete the regression pack, finalise the engagement model as well as providing ongoing support. But for now, as we prepare for our upcoming sessions at the end of the month, we're signing off and looking forward to meeting you and your team on site in future!
