Workday Human Capital Management Testing Where Do I Start?
Everyone knows that a plan for testing your Workday configuration is essential, but with so many areas to cover, it can be difficult to know where to start. It can be even more daunting when you have to prioritise hundreds if not thousands of potential test scenarios.
That 's why having a testing strategy in place for your Workday Human Capital Management (HCM) deployment is crucial. Based on the work we 've done with our Workday customers around the globe, here are some best practice tips to make your Workday testing as robust as possible.
Prioritise your business processes
Before you begin testing, you need to understand which are the most important business processes for your organisation and which carry the most complexity and risk, as these need to be tested first. For the majority of companies, it is those business processes relating to payroll such as hiring, compensation changes and termination that need to get most of your attention.Create effective test coverage
While you can 't test every single permutation in your Workday configuration, you need to make sure the tests you do run target enough coverage within those business processes your organisation relies on. In our experience, focusing on the following tenanted data items is the best way to ensure effective test coverage:- Locations: Target a spread of office locations, ensuring this covers varying salary ranges and location specific allowances.
- Worker Types: Your tests need to include the types of workers that your company employs, from permanent employees to contractors and part time workers.
- Supervisory organisations and positions: For your tests, ensure the workers you are using as test subjects are from different levels and divisions within the hierarchy of your organisation, and from a mix of positions, from graduates to senior executives.
