Future Tech Talent Visits Kainos Belfast as Part of Groundbreaking Q-Camp Programme
Belfast, 19 August 2025 - Today, Kainos welcomed a group of outstanding students from Queen’s University Belfast and Ulster University to its Belfast headquarters as part of Q-Camp 2025 - a flagship European programme inspiring the next generation of leaders in quantum technologies, deep tech, and AI.
The students are taking part in a two-week immersive programme in Poland and Northern Ireland that blends academic rigour with real-world industry experience, culminating in the Q-Con Quantum Conference in Gdańsk on 29 August.
During their visit to Kainos Belfast, students toured the company’s headquarters, engaged with teams at the forefront of machine learning applications in quantum information and cryptography, and took part in sessions exploring quantum-safe cybersecurity, AI-powered digital transformation, and the future of digital sovereignty.
"Q-Camp is about bringing together talent, technology, and ideas from all over," said Paul Batterham, Chief Innovation Officer at Kainos.
"It's wonderful to see students from Northern Ireland working alongside peers from across Europe. They'll be diving into AI, machine learning, and quantum tech together. And that's exactly the kind of collaboration we need to spark the next wave of innovation."
About Q-Camp
Q-Camp, delivered in partnership with the University of Gdańsk and Europe’s leading quantum scientists, runs from 25 August to 4 September. Students attend a mix of lectures, lab work, industry visits, and events - including a student-led hackathon at the end of the programme.
This year’s intake saw over 50 applications from 7 countries and 16 universities, with a strong Northern Ireland presence thanks to the exceptional talent from Queen’s University Belfast and Ulster University.
The visit to Kainos Belfast offered a rare opportunity to see how businesses are already preparing for quantum-enabled systems - from advanced AI platforms to the integration of machine learning in secure quantum communication networks.
Building the Future, Together
Kainos’s support for Q-Camp reflects its broader commitment to:
- Fostering emerging talent across Europe
- Supporting digital sovereignty through innovation and inclusion
- Strengthening industry-academic collaboration on future-defining technologies
“These students represent more than just potential - they are proof that the next generation is ready to rise to the challenge of a quantum-powered future,” said Danielle Keenan, Social Responsibility Manager at Kainos.
“By investing in education and creating real opportunities, we’re helping to ensure Europe’s place at the forefront of this technological revolution.”
