We are delighted to announce that Adam Watkins, Public Sector Strategy & Sales Director at Kainos has secured his seat as a member of the techUK Growth Council.

With over two decades of experience in the tech industry, Adam has a proven record of driving growth and innovation, most recently focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI). His strategic vision has expanded Kainos’ footprint in the public sector, delivering responsible AI adoption, and transformative digital solutions across government organisations.

A key priority for the Growth Council is to advise the UK Government on its growth mission, and today techUK launched their growth plan for Government ahead of the Chancellors budget. The Growth plan comes as the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) suggests that greater tech adoption could help close the Chancellor’s £22 billion black hole, twice over.

Adam too believes that focusing on the key role of AI as a transformative technology is crucial for revitalising the UK's economic growth and is part of the solution. The techUK Growth Plan states that AI has the potential to significantly increase productivity and efficiency with a projected boost to UK GDP by up to 10.3% by 2030; whilst the OBR has predicted that the widespread use of AI technology could support raising productivity by half a percentage point by 2028/29. In turn, the Government could expect to have an extra £39.9 billion of spending money while also reducing costs by £6.2 billion.

The AI Revolution is genuinely progressive, and Adam is dedicated to leveraging responsible AI to tackle the UK’s economic challenges, enhance public sector efficiency, develop a robust skills pipeline, and create a regulatory environment that fosters innovation without excessive regulation. He recently shared these insights at the Labour Party Conference 2024, highlighting the importance of AI.

On his appointment to the Growth Council, Adam said, “I’m honoured to join the techUK Growth Council to help shape the future of the UK’s tech sector. This is a great chance to work with industry leaders and policymakers to drive innovation and economic growth. By embracing AI adoption as part of the approach, we can unlock new potentials and create smarter solutions. I look forward to addressing challenges and seizing opportunities with my fellow Council members.”

Decisions made by the Growth Council have the potential to significantly impact the local community by fostering job creation, supporting local businesses, and driving technological education and skills development. To find out more about techUK and the Growth Council please visit techUK.
