Catching up with our first User Researcher in Birmingham

Kainos has set up a new base in Birmingham, and if you're readers of our blog, you'll know we have big aspirations there in terms of building a team! We caught up with one of our new recruits in our Birmingham base to find out what her expectations were, and realities are of life at Kainos. Read her interview below! When did you join Kainos, and what did you do before? I joined Kainos in May 2018. Before joining Kainos I worked as a User Researcher for a company that specialise in the financial markets, wealth management and mortgage sectors. What were your expectations of the company before you joined? The Kainos hiring process was straightforward but interesting - I actually attended a Kainos 'open evening' in their Birmingham office, which was relaxed and informative. The 'open evening' gave a good impression about the company and what it was about - it was also nice meeting people that work at Kainos. After this I was called back for a face to face interview with a Senior User Researcher and Delivery Manager, where I had to do a presentation on a topic of my choice. Even though this was a formal interview I still felt relaxed and at ease! Since joining the company, what's the reality? I am currently working on a Digital Transformation project with UK Government which was based out of Crewe but is now based out of Birmingham. It's a interesting and challenging project so far. What do you like about Kainos so far? One of the best things about Kainos and my project is the flexible working. I get to work one day from home, usually a Friday, which is beneficial. Being based out of the Birmingham office is quite nice because it has a lot going on and the office environment is really welcoming. How would you describe the Kainos culture? The culture at Kainos is fun - payday lunch at the Birmingham office is always a nice treat and the team, on the project I am currently working on, are a social bunch who are always organising fun stuff for example drinks, junkyard golf, rage rooms and much more.
